Meet the Interns: Abby

This week, each intern from the Office of Admission will be posting a short introduction to themselves and their involvement at UVA. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions!

Hi everyone! My name is Abby, and I am a rising third year majoring in Media Studies and minoring in Government. I want to work in entertainment marketing or political advertising, and I take a lot of classes about the history of advertising and television. I grew up in Maryland and I'm so excited to be in Charlottesville for the summer! I love Virginia and I love being a student at UVA.

One of my favorite places in Charlottesville is Carter Mountain, where you can pick your own apples and there's fresh apple pie, cider, and donuts. They have events throughout the year that students can go to, and it's definitely a community favorite.

One of my favorite things about C'ville is the restaurant scene. I love to try out new places when I can, and I always leave Yelp! reviews. As the Queen of Charlottesville on Yelp (this is a very real thing that I actually am, and it is one of my proudest achievements), I love to recommend new places. My favorite is Citizen Burger Bar in the Downtown Mall, which my parents and I go to every time
they come to visit me.

At UVA, I love cheering on all of our sports teams. I'm a huge football fan, but it was CRAZY when we won the basketball national championships. I watched with my friends at our basketball arena, JPJ, and the whole school had a huge celebration after the Hoos won in overtime.

I love going to events sponsored by UPC, the University Programs Council. They are a group of students who throw free events throughout the year. This year, I went to Puppies and Pumpkins, where we all played with dogs and got free pumpkins to decorate our dorms with for the fall. They also had donuts from Carter Mountain, and pumpkin decorating tables.

Studying Media Studies and Government, I like to take trips to Washington, D.C. My favorite class I've taken at UVA is Mass Media and American Politics, where our teacher encouraged us to go up to the Newseum. We went up as a group from class and had a great mini-field trip!

Also, just a final feature of me being absolutely starstruck when Senator Tim Kaine (another Wahoo) came to visit at the offices for my last internship.
