Charlottesville Restaurant Scene: W. Main Street

Hello Hoos! Today, we want to give you a guide to the best places to eat on
West Main Street. West Main is right by the Corner, and spans almost to the
Downtown Mall. There are Trolley stops all along the way, so getting there is a
breeze, especially for students in Off-Grounds housing nearby, like the Standard
or the Flats. West Main is HUGELY underrated, and there are tons of great
restaurants of all types located along the street. These are some of our favorites!

Local Flavor
Charlottesville has so many great options for dining locally, and Feast! exemplifies
that. Feast! Cafe and market is located right next to a Trolley stop, and is very
convenient. The restaurant has made to order sandwiches, salads, and soups, as well
as grab-and-go options. My favorite part of Feast! is the huge selection of local
products in their market section. They always have fresh local produce, homemade
candy, and amazing coffee drinks you can buy in a bottle. They also have exotic
meats and cheeses, perfect for when you and your friends are feeling fancy. Attached
to Feast! is Albemarle Baking Co., the BEST bakery in C’ville (IMO). Albemarle
Baking Co. makes amazing cakes, pastries, breads, and more. This is the perfect
place to stop for fresh local delicacies in Charlottesville.

Cheap Eats
As a college student, low prices can be just as important as quality food. On
West Main, there are tons of options for great food at low prices.  At Sugar
Shack, you can get freshly made donuts on the cheap, even for free! They post
one way to get a free donut every day on their Facebook page, so check that if
you’re in town to get some free food on your visit. Luther Burger in the back
of Sugar Shack is a great stop for lunch as well. Their many different fry
seasonings create huge variety, as well as their many milkshake flavors. They
even serve burgers with donuts as the buns, the true delicacy of a college student.

Mel’s Cafe on West Main street serves amazing, home-cooked food at incredibly
low prices. Their menu is huge, and I have never been disappointed by anything
there. I especially love their grilled donuts with ice cream, you have not lived until
you’ve eaten it at least once.

Benny Deluca’s on West Main is a great place to get pizza for cheap. The slices
take up two paper plates, and are made fresh and fast. They are open through the
late hours of the night, and always delicious.

Upscale Fare
Sometimes when you go out, you gotta go ALL OUT. West Main has a great
variety of fine dining restaurants, each equally as delicious as the next. AKA:
in this section, we’ll tell you where to go when your parents are in town.

DOMA Korean Kitchen on W. Main serves authentic, high-end Korean food at
affordable prices. Not only is their food delicious, it is truly beautiful to look at.
The atmosphere is fun and fresh, and the food is fantastic.

Farm Bell Kitchen is some of the best brunch food around. The restaurant also
serves a nighttime supper, but is well known for their traditional Southern brunch
fare. The chef here won Guy’s Grocery Games on the Food Network, so you
know it’s legit. They also give you a free brunch on your birthday, which is a great
way to celebrate YOU (you deserve free brunch! YES!).

Orzo is another spectacular high end restaurant on W. Main. Their Italian food
is authentic and delicious, and the place is located in the same building as Albemarle
Baking Co. and Feast! They serve pasta, seafood, charcuterie, basically authentic
upscale Italian - this is the place.

As a true lover of food, I believe W. Main is a FANTASTIC and completely
underrated center of restaurants here in Charlottesville. Be sure to check out
these places throughout the summer, or when you come back in the Fall!
Signing off,
Abby S.
