On-Grounds Housing - First Year and Beyond: Part Two

Welcome back! This part of our housing blog will cover all of our on-Grounds
Housing outside of our first year dorms.

Upperclassmen Dorms
Upperclassmen dorms are all apartment style, meaning that they have a living
room, kitchen, and bathroom. These are great places to live, and we’ll describe
each building below. And all have AC, so don’t worry about that!
Oh glorious kitchens, we’ve missed you. A kitchen in Bice - via housing.virginia.edu.
Bice (Bice Baby)
Bice is one of the closest on-Grounds housing locations. It sits just behind
Nau-Gibson Hall (home of the Politics and History Departments) and just minutes
from Central Grounds. These apartments have two or three shared bedrooms, and
dorms with three bedrooms get two bathrooms.
Lambeth
Lambeth at night - via housing.virginia.edu
Lambeth is the largest location for on-Grounds housing as an upperclassmen.
The rooms are the same as Bice, and though Lambeth is further from Grounds,
you are closer to other things. Lambeth is right by Barracks, making runs to the
store quick. They also are located by Lambeth field, the old football stadium, and
students will hold events and pick-up games there frequently.
Brandon
Brandon is brand new, and the first students ever to live there will move in in the
fall. These apartments have single bedrooms, will be completely new and clean,
and are right next to Bice in the best location at UVa. Brandon is the most sought-
after housing for upperclassmen as of now, and will likely continue to be popular,
especially as they are adding a beautiful new courtyard between Brandon and Bice!
Copeley and Faulkner

Located right by JPJ and the athletic fields, these apartments are popular among
athletes. They all have single rooms, and only two rooms each. These are the furthest
away dorms, but you are directly next to the law and graduate business schools, as
well as Barracks shopping center.

The Lawn
The greatest honor you can recieve as a UVa student is to be selected to live on
the Lawn in your fourth year. There are 54 Lawn rooms, all in the center of the
University right by the Rotunda. The application is intense since there are so few
rooms, but many people truly want to live on the Lawn above all other goals at UVa.
Katie Couric was once a Lawn room resident! You may not have AC or a kitchen,
but you have your own room with a working fireplace, which is absolutely amazing.
You also get to bring your friends in, and share in the awesome place you’ve been
given. The “Lawnies” as we call them are a very select group of students here at UVa,
and it is a great opportunity to live in a place of such history.

That’s it for on-Grounds housing! If you have questions, comment below or reach
out to us on our instagram, @uva_summer. Come back tomorrow for the last
installment of Back to School week, and thanks for reading!
Signing off,
Abby S.
